More than a decade as an investment research editor on Wall Street led to Ryan McDonough's philosophy on how to construct clear, memorable, and persuasive financial content.
In McDonough's view, the path begins once a writer identifies and commits to meeting the reader’s needs. Do that—and accept the responsibility that comes with it—and he can help instill the principles to writing smarter.
The most important among them is what McDonough terms Shift|Key Content™, or the process of engineering the most efficient path for investment analysis to achieve its full commercial potential.
That principle threads his latest project, McDonough Communications, LLC. The launch of this New York City-based consultancy follows his tenures at E*TRADE Financial (2017-2018), BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research (2007-2016), and Citi Investment Research (2005-2007).
At E*TRADE, he served as the firm's investing editorial voice, writing and overseeing the publication of topical market commentaries and primers.
At Merrill Lynch and the combined Bank of America Merrill Lynch, his editorial efforts focused on developing content strategies and training programs for emerging market equity, fixed income, and macro investment research.
At Citi, he managed the publication of an equity product series designed to increase the firm's engagement with retail investors.
McDonough has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College.
A Manhattan resident, McDonough believes that his goddaughter is the best sunshine; baseball is the greatest game; those who press already pressed elevator buttons need to not do that; Guinness in Ireland explains a lot; and found time is the best time.
